In 2014 I turned 35, and decided after years of not doing very much in the way of exercise that I needed to get fit. So I decided to go for a run in the park, I ran (jogged if I'm being honest) for three minutes before I thought I was going to die. Not the start I had hoped for, so I sought Matts expert advice. I had no idea where to start, but his knowledge and experience in that area is brilliant. I trained on my own, but based it on his methods, I also have a long standing knee injury so it was important that training didn't aggravate it, so he designed a plan that worked for me. Slowly but surely over the weeks my running became stronger. In Sept 2014 I ran my first 5K at Park Run in just under 30 minutes, in Nov 2014 I completed my first 10k in 59 minutes....this was beyond anything I had imagined. However, having been bitten by the running bug I decided to aim higher, I spoke to Matt about attempting a half marathon...his enthusiasm and encouragement had me signing up to the Hampton Court Half immediately. Over the winter I trained in all weathers, gradually increasing my mileage, Matt was always on hand with tips and help when needed, and always gave me a boost when I felt like slacking off. On the 22nd February this year I completed my first ever HM in just over 2:13 - over the moon was an understatement. I was so proud of myself and its my biggest physical achievement to date. Yes it was my legs that got me round, but it was Matts invaluable expertise and support that made all that possible.
After choosing my wedding dress, I wanted to tone up the areas that would be on show and lose a few inches - I’m sure I’m not alone as a bride when it comes to this! To start with Matt provided me with some friendly & helpful advice that started me off in the right direction changing the way in which I worked out and my diet. Then closer to my big day I hired him as a coach to accelerate my progress. It was so easy to fit in around my commute as Matt would fit in with my hectic diary with early morning or late evening workouts. I am totally delighted with the results I have had! My wedding dress has been taken in not once but twice in all the right places. I can not wait to walk down the aisle with bundles of confidence!
After years of plodding away at the gym and the odd class I'd lost all enthusiasm for exercise, and knew that I wasn't getting the results I needed.
Since Matt from One Mile In Fitness has been training me I've been getting a buzz out of exercise again, and I'm seeing some real gains! My fitness levels have doubled, I am doing new exercises all the time, and I'm really pleased with how my body is responding. This week I smashed a 2 minute 30 plank, I would NEVER have managed that before! Thanks Matt!
When you commit to working with Matt you get somebody who is committed to understanding exactly what you want to achieve. Matt genuinely appears to get his kicks from your progress whether that progress is visible or mental. As a result, part of the appeal with training with Matt is his ability to understand what is important for people to maintain their motivation. In addition to this he has a thorough understanding of physiology and is quick to structure a programme that will challenge you without fear that your body will not be able to cope!
Have a look at what Geoff has to say about our training and the results he's had in the time we've worked together. I've found Geoff an inspiration to work with his dedication to achieving his goals always at the forefront of his mind. The commitment to pushing himself in every session is so impressive and I expect to see even more great things from him in the near future.
Update: Subsequent to this video Geoff achieved his two main goals - a sub 24 minute 5k time and a sub 2hr time for the Brighton Marathon. Super work mate!
