Anyone heard of a crazy little thang called "NEAT"?
A quick search in the old google-o-tron gives us the following explanation:
"Non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT) is the energy expended for everything we do that is not sleeping, eating or sports-like exercise. It ranges from the energy expended walking to work, typing, performing yard work, undertaking agricultural tasks and fidgeting."
Basically NEAT is ANYTHING you do that isn't specifically exercise. Anything. That's why a few years back it was recommended that we walked at least 10,000 steps per day.
The best way to increase calorie burn throughout a day?
In fact, anything you do to be even a little bit more active is going to increase the burn!
The evidence is there; A study* showed that just walking 10,000 steps a day over 36 weeks resulted in decreases in weight by 2.4kgs, body fat down by 1.9% and waist and hips circumferences going down by 1.8 and 1.9inches respectively.
Add that to getting your workout in, you'll be firing on all cylinders and soon enough you'll literally be able to watch that fat melt off faster than you've ever seen before!
Throughout the month of May I want you all to move more. I want you to track your steps either by using an app on your phone, using a fitbit or by getting yourself a pedometer.
Then every single day I want you to send me your result.
I'll add you to the leaderboard and at the end of the month we will have a winner.... a winner who will win a little prize....
OK, up for it? Then just drop an email over to matt@omifitness and get yourself ready for the May 'NEAT' Challenge :-)
