So as many of you will know in my spare time I like to run a bit. As well as having fairly active work it means that during the course of a week my feet take a bit of a pounding and I can end up with any number of blisters, dead toenails, aches, pains, hard skin and other complaints.
The problem with this is that I will often subconsciously revise my running style - imagine trying to avoid a particularly nasty blister and the knock-on havoc this plays with the biomechanics of your running style.... The added strain to the knees, hips and muscles could lead to a serious injury that effects both work and play.
It's for these reason that post Brighton Marathon I decided to take myself along to see the team at Clockhouse Podiatry in Horsham. This was my first experience of Podiatry so I wanted to share this with you.
I was welcomed and had a friendly chat with Clinical Partner, Anne, before being lead into a private consultation room by Kathryn. Maria then took the time to soak my feet to prep them before Kathryn went to work on the mess that was my feet!
My better half would probably tell you that my toes are a particularly "tricky" area. Years of bashing them into the end of my shoes have lead to the toenails as good as disintegrating and at the best of times it always seems like I have one or two blackened ends along with blistered toes.
Kathryn was able to trim the toenails down removing the layer of dead-nail and revealing a clearer picture. Not only aesthetically pleasing but also providing some pressure relief as well! From there the hardened skin was shaved down, again relieving some pressure and just making things a little easier to cope with in terms of putting pressure on certain areas.
All of this was done without any discomfort and I felt at ease throughout the process.
Not only that but the advice Kathryn gave me in terms of running style, footwear and foot care will be absolutely vital in the coming months and I'm delighted to have taken the time to visit Clockhouse.
An absolute godsend with the next batch of training to start any time now!!
It's so important that we all take the time to invest in ourselves to keep ourselves as healthy as possible so we can carry on doing the things we love, be that in my case running or chasing your kids & grandkids around the garden!! If you have any foot related issues at all I can not recommend these guys enough, they know their stuff and will undoubtedly improve your foot health.
