Ho HO HOOO! With Christmas fast approaching I'm sure you're looking forward to giving and receiving some lovely gifts. So here are a few options for the fitness lover in your life..... or maybe you're looking for some inspiration to ask Santa for this year.
For your Training (1)....
I know there are a few newbie runners out there and I'm sure people are going to look to start a new habit of getting into running, swimming or cycling in 2016 so rather than draining your smartphones data download capacity invest in a GPS watch that will provide you with all kinds of stats including speeds, distances, elevation and heart rate information. This will give you such a good steer on how your training is going and (if you're anything like me) it's quite a thrill to pour over your stats every now and again! Garmin is a great place to start as they have such a range of watches from the simple Forerunner 10 to the Forerunner 910XT for the multi-sport athletes out there and everything inbetween, there's going to be something here for your or a loved one.
Rest is an important part of your training so when you're taking some time out then how about picking up a new book - 'Natural Born Heroes' by Christopher McDougall. Part WWII historical, true, story of resistance fighters on the island of Crete and part training manual, there's a real blend of information that can be applied to your training regimes. I suppose it explains partly why i'm so keen to use natural bodyweight movements in the training sessions and programmes that I offer!
It's winter so it's cold and let's be honest - it's England - so it's probably raining as well. You need to make sure that you're covered well and that you stay dry. There are a lot of options out there but in my opinion it's worth spending a little more to keep yourself comfortable and safe when you're training outside. This Gore jacket ticks many boxes including being waterproof and having reflective sections so you'll be seen in the dark.
How about a subscription to the excellent 'Headspace'? With just ten minutes a day you can practice mindfulness to improve your stress levels, focus and general wellbeing. Using this app has been quite the revelation for me, taking 10 minutes for yourself to sit quietly and be 'in the moment' has allowed me to get things done during the rest of the day and be a better person for my friends and family. Sometimes it's difficult to maintain the routine of doing this but I can't recommend getting into the habit enough. Life changing!
For your Body.....
I know that a lot of you will be thinking about dieting in the new year. I'm not a fan of the new meaning of the term 'diet' as it gives such negative connotations but if you are going to try something different in 2016, how about taking a long-term approach that will give you a long-term result? I have calorie specific 28 Day Meal Plans that will provide you with the knowledge needed to carry things forward on your own. Just provide me with your age, gender, height and weight as well as your general levels of activity and your goals (weight-loss, bulking, maintaining) and a meal plan can be provided for just £10.
