This Saturday, myself and my much better half Louise will be volunteering at Centurion Running's A100 Race (formerly W100). This will be our first time doing this but we've had plenty of experience of ultra running and the awesomeness that is this race.
I'm looking forward to experiencing things from the other side of the table so to speak and be involved in this extraordinary event. I know quite a few people running, some that are seeking to round off their incredible years and nail the Grand Slam, some that are coming out for their first ever 100 miler and everything else inbetween.
The weather conditions look to be perfect for quick times and I'm not only looking forward to witnessing first hand some sensational speed, but those that are grinding it out when it would be easier to quit. I've been there (the latter) before and I'll try to be pushing those people in when they want to sit down and stop.
I've always seen the Ultra Running World as a community - we're all like minded individuals and, largely, everyone supports each other as you know what one another is going through or is about to go through. Being part of this sport has given me a lot, I've taken a lot from it and it can be thanked/blamed for pushing me to do some extraordinary things over the past couple of years.
That said it's vital that no matter what you're involved in you give something back to your community. That's why we're heading out for almost 24 hours to lend our support and we're so pleased to do so. Offering something to all of the absolute heroes that are running will be a hugely rewarding experience I'm sure and I have no doubt that I'll be returning to both sides of the table in the future. You never know, maybe I'll convince Louise to take to the other side of the table one day as well :o)
